The setup and performance

A remarkable point about the MegaPlug is how easy the set up turned out to be. All you have to do is plug one adapter into an outlet and then another one into a different outlet. That’s it, you’re ready to go! A new network connection should appear in your Windows, no additional configuration should be necessary, unless the encrypted keys are different on both adapters. In this case the encryption key will need to be altered using the MegaPlug Configuration Utility. Keep in mind that the MegaPlug AV features a built-in 128-bit AES security, which sounds very good for home networking. Let’s take a look in few steps at how simple is to install this utility and change the key.

After inserting the included CD and running the setup a 4-step installation will prompt.

There is not much going on this first screen, all you need to do is click Next to proceed the installation.

At this point the user can select another destination location or accept the default by click going on “Next”.

Well… looks like we’re done here. After the installation completes, click on “Finish” to confirm and launch the MegaPlug AV Configuration Utility.

This is the first and probably the only one screen you might see on the utility – unless you want to take a look on the about screen – and now just type your new key and click the button “Save Key”.

With a nominal speed of 200Mbps, the MegaPlug’s performance unfortunately turns to falls significantly when looking at real world performance – just like every today’s network technology –however, it delivers a performance high enough to stream HD content (audio and video) and perform large file transfers as well.
