
Google Analyst Day (1): Demos, But Nothing on Facebook
Category: Internet and Network Date: October 24th, 2007Some 300 analysts and investors are gathered at the Googleplex for “Analyst Day.” They’re here to hear about Google’s business. But much of the buzz in the hallways is about the rumors that Google, or Microsoft, is about to make an investment in Facebook. Google representatives decline to comment.
Chief financial officer George Reyes, who will step down later this year, opens the meeting saying the day will be all about drilling down on Google’s “search, ads and apps,” strategy.
Next up is Jonathan Rosenberg, senior vice president of product management, who says that as content is being added to the Internet at a furious pace — 8 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, he says, by way of example — search will become even more important. If anything, Mr. Rosenberg said, the opportunity is even greater than at earlier analyst meetings, when chief executive Eric E. Schmidt said the opportunity for Google was “immense.” (continue at link below…)
