Features

Best performance, supports up to TDP 130W.

Heatsink

  • 6 heatpipes, maximized heat transfer.
  • High density of aluminum fins, provides large surface for heat dissipation.
  • Seamless soldering process and large copper base providing good contact for heat conductivity.
  • Waved fins to reduce wind shear noise.

3 in 1 application

  • For LGA775: push pin design for faster install.
  • For K8 and latest socket AM2, tool-less clip, easy to install.

VR Fan

  • Silent and powerful VR fan, 16dBA at minimum fan speed.
  • Adjustable fan control to boost cooling performance.

Design

The Big Typhoon VX is worthy the name, it is BIG and also heavy with 882 grams and it has six copper heat pipes. Heat pipes have become very common in the latest high performance cooling systems, since they’re widely used to transport the heat from one place to another. In this case, from the base of the cooler to the large array of thin aluminum fins.

A large diameter 120mm fan, with maximum airflow of 86.5 CFM placed in the center, dos the job of cooling the array of fins.

A fan speed controller, known as VRFan Speed Control by Thermaltake is also found in this model, mounted on the top of the heatsink. Some people prefer this function rather than an external speed control, avoiding any extra plugs and wires. However, in this case, you have the inconvenience of having to open the case to change the speed. This is specially bad when you have a cooler this big and a relatively small case. The speed controller can change the fan speed from 1300 to 2000 RPM, and the noise level varies from 16 to 24dBA proportionally to the speed.

The base of Big Typhoon VX is not a well-lapped shinny surface like other high-end CPUs heatsinks. However, it was still smooth.
