Hoping to capitalize on the growing interest among SMBs looking to buy mobile computing solutions, Hewlett-Packard on Wednesday unveiled a low-end notebook system using AMD’s 64-bit chip, along with a new product bundle and education program for those resellers mainly catering to SMBs.

Fueled by AMD’s Trion 64 mobile chip, the HP Compaq nx6125 Notebook PC is priced at just under $1,000 and includes the company’s Biometric Fingerprint Sensor, wireless LAN connectivity, a 15-in display, ATI’s Radeon Xpress200M, the DirectX 9 chipset, and a three-year warranty. Besides the Biometric Fingerprint Sensor, other security features of the system include an optional integrated Smart Card Reader, and HP’s Credential Manager, which provides a single sign-on password solution eliminating the need to remember multiple passwords.

HP officials contend they have improved the battery life of the new system by adding AMD’s PowerNow power management technology, and by offering an optional travel battery.
